Cover Yourself From Nose To Tail - With Zero BS
We understand that animal fat based products are not for everyone. On the surface animal fat is not the easiest thing to sell, we know it does not sound sexy and for some there is a yuck factor, but scratch the surface and there is a lot more than meets the eye. Animal fat has been used as a skin care regime by almost all the world's indigenous cultures for millennia. Science has now proven that this natural ingredient works very well as a skin therapeutic and to maintain a healthy skin. But that’s not all…
While packing our products with this incredible natural biodegradable ingredient, Zero BS follows a holistic “nose to tail” philosophy. The idea of "nose to tail" typically refers to a culinary concept that emphasises using the entire animal when preparing food, rather than just focusing on the popular or commonly used cuts of meat. It is often associated with traditional cultures, where it has been practiced for generations as a way of honouring the animal's life and expressing gratitude for its sacrifice.
The idea of "nose to tail" use, also known as whole animal utilisation, is a concept that helps to reduce waste and create more sustainable and economical food practices. In our case we manufacture our tallow from a by-product of the meat industry. The less desirable hard fat that is often binned is what we render into our luxurious butters and balms, packed with nutrients and good fatty acids, it’s at the heart of what makes our products such great therapeutics.
Our holistic philosophy follows the edict that if your product ingredients are not healthy enough to eat, they should not be going onto your skin. All our product ingredients are food grade and yes edible but more than that, they are antibiotic and hormone free and only the best free range grass-fed fat is used to create our tallow.
So how is this better for the environment? The majority of products on the market are either petroleum based or aqua (water) based. Clever marketing may have you think you are purchasing “natural” products but nothing could be further from the truth. Just because it is plant based does not make them eco friendly either. Palm oil and Shea butter for example are grown in huge monoculture farms, destroying indigenous forests. These products are mostly chemically refined with bleaches and solvents. Perfumes and the added vitamins are most often derived from petroleum products. Aqua based products need preservatives as bacteria thrives in water and emulsifiers are needed to combine waters and cheap seed oils that are also chemically extracted. Most of these chemicals are petroleum based. What does not get absorbed by the body will be washed off into our water systems. As it is not biodegrade, it collect in rivers and oceans and eventually makes its way back into our food chain.
At Zero BS, our products are biodegradable, chemical free and what is not absorbed into the skin breaks down into its natural innate components. But that’s not all...
At Zero BS we are not only treating skin conditions and supporting healthy skin but in our manufacturing process, we are left with the by-product from our tallow rendering. This nutritious mince meat is cooked up to produce a hearty healthy meal, high in protein and healthy fats, and used to feed many people in disadvantaged communities. This is what we mean when we say a holistic approach to skin and hair care. But that’s not all…
